Lagasse Infrared Imaging Pictures
Blue = Coldest temperatures White = Hottest temperatures
Infrared imaging shows areas temperature differentials by using different colors to show the temperatures of the image. Walls with insulation may very well show high areas of infiltration due to the inadequate air sealing of the insulation. Air leakage accounts for more than half of a home’s heat loss. In the summer you do not want high temperatures (red/white) infiltrating the building. In the winter you do not want cold temperatures (blue) infiltrating the building. The photographs are shown in pairs. The infrared picture is a closer image than the digital; therefore some of the digital image is not in the infrared photograph. The arrows point to areas of excessive air leakage and/or insulation deficiencies. Repeated problems do not have arrows for each page. There is a thermometer on the infrared image photo to use as a reference for the associated colors.
